As a drummer, accounting nerd, and the founder of a virtual education enterprise, I've learned to build businesses just like I play music — with rhythm, creativity, and an ability to improvise.
In 2021, the Ole Miss business school invited me to create a course that is completely new: Arts Entrepreneurship. No textbooks, no templates, just a course handcrafted from the ground up with a whole lot of heart. As your professor, I'll blend my business acumen, entrepreneurial experiences, and a passion for creativity into what I hope is an engaging learning journey. In each online assignment, we'll uncover the potent synergy between entrepreneurship and creativity, underscoring its significance for your success as an entrepreneur and artist of your own life’s path.
My teaching style connects with students by transforming complex ideas into relatable, thought-provoking lessons — instead of simply forcing “textbook knowledge” into your brain. With two Ole Miss accountancy degrees (class of 2017) and experience tutoring over 1,500 students, I've learned to innovate my approach to online learning for students. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I pivoted my in-person tutoring company into Survive Accounting, a top-tier online study platform now serving accounting students nationwide.
In my eight years as an entrepreneur, I've discovered that business is much more of an art than a science, defying most of the conventional wisdom found in your textbooks. To me, building a business is like writing a song, a deeply personal journey of creativity influenced by your life experiences and values. It requires unwavering dedication, learning from painful failures, and relentless refinement until your creation resonates with an audience and, like a song — turns into a hit.
(It took me eight years to discover what my own ‘hit’ was… talk about an overnight success!)
